About Us

Bedfordshire Probation Trust is part of the National Offender Manager Service (NOMS) and works with offenders living in Bedfordshire from our offices in Bedford and Luton.

Our aims are to:

  • Punish offenders sentenced to a community sentence
  • Bring about change in offenders’ behaviour
  • Protect the public
  • Reduce re-offending

Some offenders are serving sentences in the community or undergoing treatment programmes. A small number are people who have served their sentence, usually in prison but continue to be monitored by the Police and Probation working in partnership with a range of other local agencies including local councils and the health service.

Our work includes:

  • Preparing pre-sentence reports to courts to help judges and magistrates choose the most appropriate sentence
  • Managing community sentences ordered by the courts. This includes running community payback projects and programmes to help offenders change their behaviour
  • Running hostels for people who have served a prison sentence and need a place to stay where they can get support and an environment with firm rules that will reduce the likelihood of their returning to a life of crime
  • Working with victims of crime by keeping them informed about the offender’s sentence and ensuring their views are considered at the times of sentence and release
