Each year more than 2,000 people in Bedfordshire will serve community sentences, supervised by the Probation Service. Some will do unpaid work for the community, others will be on special probation programmes to deter them from crime. We also supervise offenders who are released on licence from prison.

Justice seen, Justice Done

Justice Seen, Justice Done is a Government campaign to put the law-abiding public first in policing and justice, and to ensure that offenders face tough consequences and pay something back to their communities.

The campaign is based around Community Payback - a tough and visible consequence for offenders that involves working to improve our public areas.

They could find themselves hacking back dense undergrowth, clearing rubbish or scrubbing graffiti from walls.

Luton has been chosen to pilot the campaign, and you, the public, are being asked to get involved by voting for one of five Community Payback projects.

Visit our Community Payback pages for more information, or go direct to communitypayback.direct.gov.uk

Voting closes 24 April.

A Chance to "Judge for Yourself"

“Judge for Yourself” offers the chance to see four offenders, find out why they offend, and suggest a sentence to the court. This interactive CD-ROM depicts four real life cases, shows you the court’s decision, and lets you see how things turned out at the end of the sentence.

FREE: The CD-ROM is available free for use in secondary schools, colleges and for youth groups in Luton and Bedfordshire. It can also be used by criminal justice professionals working in crime reduction.
